It’s Time to get Toasty.

I am Bread was released in the first half of 2015 and is already creating a bit of a sensation among gamers. Many people are saying it is the best thing since sliced bread and it definitely boasts an unusual concept. Can an action-adventure game based on bread really be that much fun? Take a look at the review to learn more.

The game has a certain cartoony feel that is sure to appeal to many gamers. The basic aim of the game is to control a slice of bread and progress through the game until the bread finally reaches the toaster and is transformed into toast. Along the way there are objects that must be avoided such as ants, water and the floor. If the bread touches these objects the edible metre will go down and the lifespan of the bread and in turn the game will be diminished.

This is probably the only game in the world where players have the chance to be a piece of bread, which gives "I am Bread" a certain appeal. Controlling the bread is fairly easy and can be done via the arrow keys. However, the keys simply propel the bread in short and rather unsatisfying jerks and you will also need to make use of the power grips on the corners of each slice of bread to flip it across the room. This naturally reduces accuracy and whether you decide to play it safe or go for the flip depends on what kind of player you are.

The bread is surprisingly powerful and is strong enough to climb up walls, fridge doors and anything else that lies in its path. This mighty bread can also smash jam jars to get at the sticky spread inside, open cupboard doors and knock over chairs.

Each of the levels are based on the days of the week and players go on to face a bright new day with each level. The levels represent different rooms in a home and this guy is far from being a neat freak, so there are plenty of obstacles to avoid. The attention to detail of this game can be both appealing and a bit of a turnoff at the same time. You get to explore the world of a typical bachelor, complete with nail clippings on the pillow and dirty clothes on the floor.

The performance of players is based on the time it takes to reach the toaster, total edibility at the end of each level and the evenness of the toast after it emerges from the toaster. People who are finding it hard to make the grade can also choose to use magic marmalade, making them invulnerable to inedibility.

The main appeal of this game is the gimmick, and once this has worn off players are left with what is ultimately a rather dull game. However, the appeal can still last for several hours, which is really all that is needed to complete I am Bread and hop into the toaster.

This game probably won’t rock your world, but it is still worth checking out. I am Bread is definitely quite two dimensional, but it can offer a few hours of fun filled gaming and a welcome distraction for the pressures of modern day life. It’s best not to over think this game and just enjoy the fun while it lasts. After all, it’s only bread.
